Winds of Crisis

Sowmya G | Staff Writer

We are the future of this country. In a world filled with unkept promises, inaction, and under-deliverance, Winds of Crisis gave budding entrepreneurs of MIT a chance to assess their capacity in a challenging environment where a split-second decision could make or break their chances of winning.

The event consisted of eleven participating groups. Each of them was given twenty-five million dollars to bet on a line-up of fifty fictional start-ups, only some of which would survive. Five lucky groups that were successful in gauging the potential of these young ventures became the wealthy owners of the most successful companies and moved on to the next round: ‘Mark It Up’. Here, the successful teams faced a challenging case study on marketing. Ashish bagged the first place in Winds of Crisis and, along with four other participants, moved on to the second round, where the lucky winner will bag the prize money of Rs 4000. The runner-up is not disappointed, being awarded Rs 2000.

Participants place their wagers.

Archit Singh, a member of the Core Committee, while explaining the idea behind the event, said that their main focus was “to check the participants’ business acumen in a high-energy environment wherein they needed to keep their nerves in control and take logical decisions.” Highlighting the importance of the event, he said, “This skill is essential for managing a crisis because you need to be calm and maintain your composure to take vital decisions which will shape the future of your organisation.” The event was organised well, and the participants described the event to be akin to the show Shark Tank and very enjoyable.
