As a daunting reminder of the Kedarnath tragedy, Uttarakhand experienced highly destructive floods on the 7th February, 2021. A consequence of glacial melting, possibly accelerated by global warming, havoc was wreaked on the people working at the nearby power projects. The post-monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in many places in the state of Karnataka. The temple town of Udupi and several other regions have borne the brunt of the flash floods caused due to excessive rainfall and a lack of effective prevention measures being taken by the government. After a widescale evacuation of people by the NDRF in the last few weeks, the state looks forward to recovering from the damage it has sustained.
Former District Collector of Kozhikode Prasanth Nair, who has been involved with the relief operations following the Kerala floods, interacted with the press and public in separate sessions at the venue of the National Conference on Youth in Social Change on Sunday. Nair talked about the operations following the disaster and initiatives during his time as the DC.
