Riding For A Cause – M-BRACE ’16

Red-X Manipal’s cyclothon ‘M-BRACE 2016’ began on a pleasantly windy Tuesday evening at 5:30 on November 15th. Close to sixty cyclists started off from the striking venue that is End Point, in the company of none other than Dr. G.K. Prabhu, the beloved director of Manipal Institute of Technology.

As wind rushed through their hair and vaporized examination stresses, they set off on their planned route that wound through the city of Manipal. The purpose of this ride was to raise awareness on breast cancer, and the cyclists first proceeded to make their way to Syndicate Circle followed by Manipal Lake, Venugopal Temple, and whizzed past Kamath Circle before finally coming to a halt at KMC Greens.

The palatial backdrop of KMC Greens turned out to be the quintessential venue to bring the event to a close, as the Department of Oncology delivered a presentation on the causes, symptoms, and preventative measures to be taken against breast cancer awareness.

This was then followed by a play performed by the students of KMC that shed some light on the plight of breast cancer victims.

The students of WGSHA educated the audience about food items that could possibly diminish their chances of contracting breast cancer. On being interviewed at the conclusion of ‘Cyclothon’, Meet Patel of Red-X Manipal, who was as boisterous as ever about the success of his club’s event remarked that all had gone as planned, and that the event was to come to a close after the volunteers were given T-shirts and caps, and certificates were handed out to the participants.

It was a pleasant and informative evening that helped bring to our attention a very serious matter and which is often neglected in our quick-paced college lives. The members of Red-X left no stone unturned in making sure that their event proceeded as fluidly and flawlessly as possible.
