Republic Day Celebrations

The 68th Republic Day was celebrated in all its grandeur at KMC Greens on the 26th of January, 2017. The brief affair was graced by prominent members of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), with students and faculty from the various constituents of  Manipal University in attendance.

The event began with an honorary salute by the marching contingents followed by a welcome address by Dr. Gopalakrishna Prabhu, the Director of Manipal Institute of Technology. The Indian flag was hoisted by  Dr. Ramdas M. Pai (Chancellor of Manipal University) who was escorted by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat (Vice Chancellor of MU) as well as Dr. G. K. Prabhu.

The march-past comprised contingents of Manipal University’s several constituent colleges including Manipal Institute of Technology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal School of Nursing, School of Communication, WGSHA, and Department of Commerce. With a gleam in their eyes, the participants marched in rhythm to the marching band’s beats, executing the march-past in impeccable synchronization.

Dr. H. Vinod Bhat delivered a speech which brought to the foreground several aspects pertaining to the constitution and its importance. He urged the audience to respect everyone’s rights and never fail to abide by the law. He also highlighted the actions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and the demonetization policy receiving special mentions. Dr. Bhat’s words were inspiring as he urged the attendees to “take pride in everything you do”.

Manipal Institute of Technology’s was declared the Best Marching Contingent, which was followed by everyone chanting the college motto, ‘Mighty Mighty MIT’. The contingent received the award from the Director himself. The event concluded with a brief vote of thanks by Dr. B H Venkataram Pai (Joint Director of Manipal Institute of Technology) following which sweets and savories were distributed in honor of the celebrations.
