A Journey of Magical Motivation—Illumine Talks

A joint venture between the Lions Club of Manipal and the Rotaract Club of Manipal, Illumine Talks was a motivational talk show featuring two distinguished speakers, Hisrar Tallani and Shankar Junior.  The event took place on 8th February 2019 in the MIT Library auditorium.

Hisrar Tallani

Hisrar Tallani embodies the phrase ‘Jack-of-all-Trades’, being an event manager, a radio jockey, and above all, a motivational speaker. Beginning his talk with a presentation set to the tune of Final Countdown, Hisrar set the energy on stage, that kept rising from that point forth. He offered a different perspective on what success and failure meant, and from whom one should be taking advice regarding the same. He broke the monotony of his speech by offering anecdotes from his own life, which the onlookers found quite relatable and humorous.

Shankar Junior

The second speaker for the evening was Shankar Junior, a magician, who bewitched the audience and kept them at the edge of their seats throughout his presentation. Beginning his career at merely two-and-a-half years old, he has since jumped from one success to another. He was conferred with The National AwardUgadi Puraskar from the Madras Telugu Academy in 1991. His name was also recommended to the Guinness Book of World Records in the category Achievements in the Young Age, by the magician, Doug Henning.

Shankar Junior grabbed the crowd’s attention with ease by making a 2000 rupee note disappear within minutes of his introduction. He then proceeded to showcase how easy it is to fool people through simple means of distraction, misdirection, and perception. His talk was thoroughly interactive, which kept viewers engaged through a series of videos and mini-games.

“I liked Mr Shankar’s presentation more because it was practical and relatable. Nevertheless, Mr Hisrar’s talk was especially influential and I gathered some points from it that I can apply in my routine life. I had decided to attend this event because I am a part of Rotaract and I am very happy with my decision to do so”, said audience member, Oshin Sharma. The event closed on a high note, with each spectator heading back having learnt life-enriching lessons.
