Jamming Away: MAFIA’s informal jam session

The sound of music is the very last thing one expects to hear while walking through the main gate on a regular day. However, if you weren’t daunted by the incessant rain and were to make your way down to the old Horticulture room on the 16th of September, you would be in for the musical treat of a lifetime.
The Music And Fine Arts Club (MAFIA), Manipal held their informal jam session on the evening of the 16th of September. Being strictly informal in nature, the jam session provided an open platform for budding vocalists and instrumentalists across MIT, disregarding their membership of MAFIA. Boasting a diverse variety of talent including drummers, guitarists, and singers, the performers touched upon several genres of music, ranging from the soulful melodies of the good ol’ days to the faster paced and intense beats of contemporary music.

They also managed to lighten the mood further by performing Green Day’s hit single, ‘The Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, followed immediately by its less well-known but hilarious parody, ‘The Engineering Anthem’ by AIB dealing in a lighter vein with the difficulties faced by every Indian Engineer.
Coming up right on the heels of the sessionals, the jam session was no doubt needed to release the students’ pent-up tension. The organizers’ only regret was the torrential rainfall that day, which had a significant impact on the number of participants and the audience.
