For Once, a Love Poem

I do not wish to be loved in extraordinary circumstances

I do not wish it for it to be in moments when your mortality becomes too apparent

And the world suddenly makes sense

I do not wish for it in moments when

The sky seems to speak to you

When suddenly death whispers so close

I do not wish to have your love because the blade of mortality grazes your neck

I wish to be loved not because of the extraordinary

I wish to be loved despite the ordinary

Despite the normal breathing down your neck

Threatening a whole 70 years of pointless existence

Despite the 9 to 5 job that will eventually kill you

Despite the carcinogens in the air we breathe

Despite the death that will come but too late

I wish to be loved despite the everyday.
