DataVista: The Alchemy of Data Crunching
In a vibrant celebration of learning and creativity, TDA launched its much anticipated flagship event ” DataVista”, a weeklong technical fest from 13th to 18th of January.
From engaging talks with industry experts in data analytics to immersive workshops and thrilling hackathons, the event was a total package of fun and learning. It provided students with the unique opportunity to explore and dive into a diverse range of topics, blending education with hands-on experiences.
The event commenced with a speaker session with Archit Patel, senior product manager at Amazon and our distinguished alumnus. He shared his journey and experience working with some of the biggest industry giants like BlackRock, Dell, Google and Amazon, organizations that many aspiring engineer dream of joining. He took a nostalgic turn, as he foundly relieved his experiences of being one the first data enthusiasts from Manipal. The session marked its end with a fun trivia based on product management which made it even more fun and engaging.
This was followed by a workshop on one of the more trendier topics of today, Generative AI, conducted by the Vice President of TDA, Mangalam Sontakke. He delved into the history of AI and also called the “Human Mind” the greatest Generative AI, as he stressed over the immense creative potential that every human possesses. His thought provoking session left all those who attended with something to look back upon.
Next up was the NLP workshop on RAG ( Retrieval-Augmented Generation), conducted by the Treasurer and NLP head of TDA, Neha Nair. We worked on RAG, which is used for enhancing communication with chatbots. With chatbots already an integral part of our life, it felt fascinating working on this cutting edge technology that is in all trend right now.
Following this was another speaker session, conducted by Kalpesh G., a senior data analyst with over six years of experience. His session dove deep into the world of data analytics as he could not stress less on the importance of data in today’s data driven world. He provided glimpses of his life as an analyst and shared valuable advice for those aspiring to build a career in data analytics.
Next up was the Power-BI workshop conducted by Devesh Ahuja, the DAVE head at TDA, where he delved into the world of dashboard building using Power-BI.
Last up was the much awaited Kaggle 24 hour online ML Hackathon. With over 40 teams participating and over 100 entries it gave a competitive finish to the weeklong technical festivities as all teams gave their all and worked hard to rise to the top.
In conclusion DataVista was a true celebration of learning and innovation. From speaker sessions to workshops and Hackathons, it took the participants across an unforgettable journey into the world of data analytics.
The success of DataVista reflects the collective efforts of TDA and the enthusiastic participation of students, leaving everyone eagerly looking forward to the next edition of this flagship fest.
