A Case Study in Collaboration—MAHESRF

“Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and think what nobody else has thought.”

-Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Research is defined as the creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge in a particular field. According to NIRF, the National Institute Ranking Framework, research makes up for 40% of the grade received by an institute in India, the most weight given to a single category. MAHE Student Research Forum (MAHESRF) is an active student body dedicated and developed to inculcate research interest among students all across MAHE.

Constituted in October 2013, and formally inaugurated by Dr K. Ramnarayan (former Vice-Chancellor) on the 14th of November, 2013, MAHESRF acts as a common platform for students and professors to collaborate and develop their knowledge in their chosen fields. The main objective for MAHESRF is to assist the abstract ideas received from students and help them shape it into well-researched papers, ready for publication in prominent journals. The guidance and assistance are provided by the members of MAHESRF who are selected personally from among the faculty by the Directorate of Research. The council of MAHESRF is made up of esteemed professors from every institute under MAHE, with their President being chosen from a different institute every year on a rotational basis.

MAHESRF holds three major events annually to promote the interest towards research among undergraduate and postgraduate students—Research Poster Competition during Manipal Research Colloquium, Summer Training Program, and the Interdisciplinary Conference on Healthcare and Technical Research (ICHTR). These events primarily involve academic lectures and talks, workshops as well as poster and oral competitions based on their original research.

ICHTR 2018 is being held on the 29th-31st of October with the theme for this year being ‘Widening Horizons of Research and Innovation’ under the topics such as medical science, pharmaceutical science as well as engineering sciences. The conference aims to bring about a fruitful discussion between established and experienced minds and the young eager student body striving to make a mark in their respective fields of research.
